The government “ready” to host the Apec 2022 meeting
Boosting MSMEs onto the agenda
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has announced that Thailand is fully prepared to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit this year, government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said.
“This is a crucial opportunity for Thailand to promote trade in the Asia-Pacific region,” Thanakorn said on Saturday.
Officials from Apec’s 21 member countries will attend more than 250 meetings – divided into political and ministerial levels – to exchange views and set a target for harnessing the economy, Thanakorn said.
A hands-on meeting focusing on two topics – building the capacity of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to compete in the Asia-Pacific region and reducing food sector waste in the food supply chain – took place. is held recently.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has worked with the Office for the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSMEP) and the Apec Business Advisory Council (ABAC) to issue guidance on reducing food waste for MSMEs .
Gen. Prayut said Thailand will host the Apec meeting this year under the concept of “Open. Connect. Balance,” Thanakorn said.
Connectivity will be restored in travel, tourism, trade and investment. In addition, Thailand will promote a balance between economy and environment under the Bio-Circular and Green Economy (BCG) model.
Mr. Thanakorn said Gen. Prayut also thanked state agencies and the private sector for their cooperation in preparing for Apec.
Apart from Apec, Mr Thanakorn said General Prayut was focused on tackling the country’s problems, including the Covid-19 pandemic and soaring consumer prices.
“General Prayut says everyone should be united to solve problems and should not be too political,” Mr Thanakorn said.
