Thai government authorizes six new special economic zones in EEC

BANGKOK (The Nation / Asia News Network): A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (October 5) approved the creation of six new special economic zones in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), said deputy government spokeswoman Ratchada Thanadirek ( Photo).

“The decision was proposed by the political committee of the EEC with the aim of using the areas available in the EEC of 15 836 rai for industrial and commercial purposes,” she said.

“The project will cover areas of 5,458 rai and will use a budget of 300.77 billion Bt over a ten-year period (2021-2030).”

The new special economic zones are:

> Rojana Laem Chabang industrial zone, Chonburi province (698 rai). It is expected to support the modern automotive, smart electronics, aviation and logistics industries.

> Rojana Nong Yai industrial zone, Chonburi province (1,501 rai). It is expected to support the modern automotive, smart electronics, aviation and logistics industries.

> Asia Clean Industrial Estate, Chonburi province (978 rai). It should support the modern automotive, smart electronics, agriculture and biotechnology industries.

> Egco industrial zone, Rayong province (421 rai). It should support the modern automotive, robotics, digital, aviation and logistics industries.

> WHA industrial zone, Rayong province (1498 rai). It should support the modern automotive, robotics, aviation and logistics industries.

> Banchang digital innovation and high-tech center, Rayong province (519 rai).

The Cabinet also approved the motion to increase the area of ​​EECmd center at Thammasat University, a special economic zone that serves as a medical hub in Chonburi province by 18 rai, bringing the total area of ​​the center to 585 rai. .
