The NBTC office, in cooperation with the International Institute of Communications, hosted the International Symposium on 5G and the Benefits of Big Data on June 24, 2021 with the aim of advancing the benefits of 5G and Big Data technologies in various industries and promote digital. transformation of the Thai economy and society.
Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC Office) in cooperation with International Institute of Communication (IIC) hosted the International Symposium on 5G and the Benefits of Big Data at the NBTC Auditorium Hall 2 Office on June 24, 2021 in a hybrid meeting format to align with Thai government restrictions during the outbreak of COVID-19. Mr. Chris Chapman, President of the International Institute of Communications UK, delivered welcoming remarks and the Honorable General Sukit Khamasundara, Commissioner, Acting Chairman of the NBTC, presided over the opening ceremony. Also present was Mr. Trairat Viriyasirikul, Assistant Secretary General Acting Secretary General and representative of Japan and the Russian Embassy in Thailand.
The objective of the International Symposium was to provide an opportunity for government and private sector representatives and representatives of embassies in Thailand to recognize the benefits and critical role of 5G and big data technologies in countries around the world where it is It is a key mechanism for data connections via telecommunications infrastructure that stimulates the advancement of business activities and creates added value in various industries.
The symposium addressed four topics, namely: 1) Strategies for driving 5G; 2) Create and seize the opportunities offered for digital transformation case studies; 3) The infrastructure and policy requirements to support Big Data, and; 4) The need for regulatory change and the roles of regulators.
The International Symposium brought together at least 25 speakers, including: Mr. Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC); Mr. Michel Van Bellinghen, President of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) 2021; Dr. Wilhelm Eschweiler, Vice-President, Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) Germany; Mr. Thomas E Abell, Head of Digital Technology for Development, Asian Development Bank (AfDB); Mr. Harin Grewal, Cluster Director (Networks, Technology and Resources), Infocomm Media Development Authority; Executive Director, Singapore Network Information Center (SGNIC). Plus senior executives from Nokia, AT&T, iQIYI, Google, Cisco, NTT Docomo, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asia Cloud Computing Association, Oracle ASEAN, Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Commissioner Thailand. Senior Thai and international executives served as moderators, including: Andrea Millwood International Institute of Communications; Associate Professor Sudharma Yoonaidharma, Commissioner at the Energy Regulatory Commission of Thailand, and; Mr. Notachard Chintakanond Executive Director, Bureau of International Affairs NBTC Office. In addition, over 300 participants from Thai and international entities attended the International Symposium online.
The NBTC office aims to intensify the development of Thai industry for the digital transformation of the Thai economy and society for the benefit of all Thai citizens.
