The country begins to accept vaccinated foreign travelers
Thailand said on Friday it would delay reopening nightlife entertainment venues until Jan.15 despite industry calls to do so earlier.
A spokesperson for the Covid-19 government administration raised concerns about ventilation and ineffective prevention measures in pubs, bars and karaoke facilities.
“Experts are showing their concern about the reopening of these places due to the poor ventilation and the crowds, which would be difficult to control,” said Taweesin Visanuyotin, spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration. “We will allow businesses to reopen, but we could start by testing in certain areas. “
From November, Thailand began reopening to fully vaccinated visitors without quarantine, easing the lockdown that has caused massive job losses and hardship. Tourism represented around 20% of the economy before the pandemic.
